mushrooms on stump

This seems to be quite the year for mushrooms around here. Last weekend I couldn’t take a step without spotting another mushroom. This particular group is in my backyard thriving on a long dead stump - good reason right there not to remove your stumps!

I developed a couple of rolls of film last night (2 down, 8 to go) and was genuinely excited at what I was seeing. Got up early this morning in order to scan a few frames before heading off for the day. I wasn’t nearly as happy once I began scanning. When disabling all of scanners auto-adjustments I found I was grossly under-exposed for this shot (and others). I tell ya, this working without a built-in meter is not to be taken lightly. I’ll think I’m grasping it only to find that I’m missing something critical. Of course even in printing you’re able to modify things a great deal in order to extract a good print. But I’m still striving for a good negative - one that damn near hits the mark… and I’d like it to be intentional!

I will continue to plug away at this until I do grasp, hopefully sooner rather then later.
